And this Book that We have sent down is a blessed one; so follow it, and be Godwary so that you may receive [His] mercy.
Lest you should say, ‘The Book was sent down only to two communities before us, and we were indeed unaware of their studies,’
or [lest] you should say, ‘If the Book had been sent down to us, surely we would have been better-guided than them.’ There has already come to you a manifest proof from your Lord and a guidance and mercy. So who is a greater wrongdoer than him who denies the signs of Allah, and turns away from them? Soon We shall requite those who turn away from Our signs with a terrible punishment because of what they used to evade.
Do they not consider that the angels may come to them, or your Lord may come, or some of your Lord’s signs may come? The day when some of your Lord’s signs do come, faith shall not benefit any soul that had not believed beforehand and had not earned some goodness in its faith. Say, ‘Wait! We too are waiting!’
Indeed those who split up their religion and became sects, you will not have anything to do with them. Their matter rests only with Allah; then He will inform them concerning what they used to do.
Whoever brings virtue shall receive [a reward] ten times its like; but whoever brings vice shall not be requited except with its like, and they will not be wronged.
Say, ‘Indeed my Lord has guided me to a straight path, the upright religion, the creed of Abraham, a Hanif, and he was not one of the polytheists.’
Say, ‘Indeed my prayer and my worship, my life and my death are for the sake of Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
He has no partner, and I have been commanded [to follow] this [creed], and I am the first of those who submit [to Allah].’
Say, ‘Shall I seek a Lord other than Allah, while He is the Lord of all things?’ No soul does evil except against itself, and no bearer shall bear another’s burden; then to your Lord will be your return, whereat He will inform you concerning that about which you used to differ.
It is He who has made you successors on the earth, and raised some of you in rank above others so that He may test you in respect to what He has given you. Indeed your Lord is swift in retribution, and indeed, He is all-forgiving, all-merciful.

Sources present: Ṭabarsī, Majmaʿ al-Bayān [tabarsi_majma_al_bayan]; Ṭūsī, al-Tibyān [tusi_al_tibyan]; Baḥrānī, al-Burhān [bahrani_al_burhan]; al-Qummī [qummi]; Ṭabāṭabāʾī, al-Mīzān [tabatabai_al_mizan]; An Enlightening Commentary [enlightening_commentary]. All six present.
The sūra closes by commending the blessed Book that leaves no excuse (6:155–157), warning of the day when faith no longer profits (6:158), disowning those who splinter religion into sects (6:159), promising the tenfold reward (6:160), and gathering the whole into the Prophet's confession — "my prayer and my sacrifice, my life and my death, are for God" — and the stewardship of an earth on which God tries His servants (6:161–165).
1. The Book that severs the excuse (6:155–157). All read the blessed Book as sent so the Arabs cannot plead that scripture came only to the Jews and Christians, or that they would have been better guided. [tabarsi_majma_al_bayan] and [tusi_al_tibyan] draw the lesson that revelation is a grace (luṭf) leaving no excuse, and discuss whether the long-dead had an excuse. [tabatabai_al_mizan] and [enlightening_commentary] develop the same theme of the conclusive bayyina.
2. The day faith no longer profits (6:158). All read the awaited "signs" as those that compel belief and end the time of repentance — the sun rising from the west, the Beast, the Smoke. [tabarsi_majma_al_bayan] and [tusi_al_tibyan] give the Prophetic "hasten to deeds before six." [bahrani_al_burhan] and [qummi] add the distinctive Imāmī reading: the signs are the Imams, the awaited sign the Qāʾim, and the earth is never without a proof (ḥujja) until forty days before the End.
3. Disowning the sects (6:159). All read "those who divided their religion" with the views (the Jews; the Jews and Christians; all polytheists; the innovators of this community, per al-Bāqir), and the variant "fāraqū" reported from ʿAlī. [bahrani_al_burhan] and [qummi] gloss it as parting from the Commander of the Faithful.
4. The tenfold reward (6:160). All read the good deed multiplied tenfold (or more) against the evil deed requited by its like alone. [tabarsi_majma_al_bayan] and [tusi_al_tibyan] expound the People of Justice's doctrine (one merited, nine bounty) and reconcile it with the sevenfold and manifold verses. [bahrani_al_burhan] supplies the rich body of fasting-narrations and the reading "the good deed is our walāya."
5. The closing confession and stewardship (6:161–165). All read "my prayer, my sacrifice, my living and my dying are for God" as total devotion, and "no bearer bears another's burden" (6:164) as a proof against the Determinists. On 6:165, [qummi] and [bahrani_al_burhan] gloss the raising "in ranks" as in measure and wealth, with [bahrani_al_burhan] adding al-Ṣādiq's "the people excel one another by deeds."
[bahrani_al_burhan] alone carries the Qāʾim/ḥujja cluster on 6:158, the al-Riḍā/Harawī reconciliation of 6:164, and al-Ṣādiq's full creed of religion (neither compulsion nor delegation); [qummi] uniquely names the abrogation on 6:160 and concentrates the walāya and ḥanīfiyya glosses. [tabatabai_al_mizan] frames the close as the seal of the sūra's argument and dwells on the meaning of "the first of the Muslims"; [enlightening_commentary] supplies the running prose on the day of no-profit and the ten practices of the ḥanīfiyya. The classical pair [tabarsi_majma_al_bayan] and [tusi_al_tibyan] carry the qirāʾāt, the kalām of reward and bounty, and the refutation of the Determinists. No source is silent for this passage.
