He said, ‘Moses, your request has been granted!

  14. 37

Certainly, We have done you a favour another time,

  15. 38

when We revealed to your mother whatever was to be revealed:

  16. 39

“Put him in the casket, and cast it into the river. Then the river will cast it on the bank, and he shall be picked up by an enemy of Mine and an enemy of his.” And I made you endearing, and that you might be reared under My [watchful] eyes.

  17. 40

When your sister walked up [to Pharaoh’s palace] saying, “Shall I show you someone who will take care of him?” Then We restored you to your mother, that she might not grieve and be comforted. Then you slew a soul, whereupon We delivered you from anguish, and We tried you with various ordeals. Then you stayed for several years among the people of Midian. Then you turned up as ordained, O Moses!

  18. 41

And I chose you for Myself.’

  19. 42

‘Go ahead, you and your brother, with My signs and do not flag in My remembrance.

  20. 43

Both of you go to Pharaoh, for he has indeed rebelled.

  21. 44

Speak to him in a soft manner; maybe he will take admonition or fear.’

  22. 45

They said, ‘Our Lord! We are indeed afraid that he will forestall us or will exceed all bounds.’

  23. 46

He said, ‘Do not be afraid, for I will be with the two of you, hearing and seeing [whatever happens].

  24. 47

So approach him and say, ‘‘We are the apostles of your Lord. Let the Children of Israel go with us, and do not torture them! We certainly bring you a sign from your Lord, and may peace be upon him who follows guidance!

  25. 48

Indeed it has been revealed to us that punishment shall befall those who impugn us and turn their backs [on us].’’ ’

  26. 49

He said, ‘Who is your Lord, Moses?’

  27. 50

He said, ‘Our Lord is He who gave everything its creation and then guided it.’

  28. 51

He said, ‘What about the former generations?’

  29. 52

He said, ‘Their knowledge is with my Lord, in a Book. My Lord neither makes any error nor forgets.’

  30. 53

He, who made the earth for you a cradle, and in it threaded for you ways, and sent down water from the sky, and with it We brought forth various kinds of vegetation.

Synthesis: Sūrat Ṭā-Hā 24–53

Triangulated from Ṭabarsī (Majmaʿ al-Bayān) [tabarsi_majma_al_bayan], al-Qummī [qummi], al-Ṭūsī (al-Tibyān) [tusi_al_tibyan], al-Baḥrānī (al-Burhān) [bahrani_al_burhan] and al-Ṭabāṭabāʾī (al-Mīzān) [tabatabai_al_mizan]; the published Enlightening Commentary is carried alongside.

Human-review flags: al-Baḥrānī [bahrani_al_burhan] — narration-collection with isnād chains abridged; al-Mīzān [tabatabai_al_mizan] — two long bayān units condensed, rendered here for 24–53.

What the passage says. The command "Go to Pharaoh" (24) opens onto Moses' fourfold prayer — expand my breast, ease my task, loosen my tongue, appoint Aaron as minister and partner (25–35) — which is granted (36). God then recounts His earlier favours: the infant cast into the Nile, the "love" cast upon him, his rearing in Pharaoh's own house, the sister's ruse restoring him to his mother, the killing of the Copt, the ordeals, the Midian years, and his arrival "at an appointed measure," "fashioned for Myself" (37–41). The two are sent with signs and the gentle word (42–44); assured "I am with you, hearing and seeing" (45–46), they deliver the message (47–48). Pharaoh's "Who is your Lord?" draws Moses' reply — "who gave everything its creation, then guided it" — and, to the taunt about "the former generations," "their knowledge is with my Lord in a Book" (49–53).

The prayer and Aaron's partnership (25–35). All five sources read Moses' request for Aaron as a share in the task, not in prophethood-as-revelation. al-Ṭūsī [tusi_al_tibyan] and al-Ṭabāṭabāʾī [tabatabai_al_mizan] anchor this in {send him with me as a support to confirm me} and {We shall strengthen your arm by your brother}; al-Ṭabāṭabāʾī adds the fine point that the "sharing" is in the primary conveyance of revelation, which is the prophet's alone. Here the Imāmī reading is most vivid: al-Baḥrānī [bahrani_al_burhan] and al-Ṭabāṭabāʾī both carry the tradition (Asmāʾ bt. ʿUmays; Ibn ʿAbbās via Abū Nuʿaym) that the Prophet made this exact supplication for ʿAlī — "strengthen through him my back and let him share in my task" — a manzila-parallel al-Ṭabāṭabāʾī treats at length. On the tongue-knot, Ṭabarsī [tabarsi_majma_al_bayan] and al-Ṭūsī give the coal-in-the-mouth account (Saʿīd b. Jubayr, Mujāhid, al-Suddī) and, with al-Ḥasan, hold it was fully loosed, per {you have been granted your request}.

The favours and "for Myself" (37–41). Ṭabarsī [tabarsi_majma_al_bayan] supplies the fullest narrative — the casket, Āsiya, the refused breasts, the sister — while al-Qummī [qummi], al-Ṭūsī and al-Baḥrānī gloss the key terms: futūn = "We tested you," Midian = "with Shuʿayb," iṣṭanaʿtuka = "I chose you." al-Baḥrānī [bahrani_al_burhan] preserves the striking al-ʿAyyāshī reading of {I cast upon you love from Me} where "love" typifies the believer. al-Ṭabāṭabāʾī [tabatabai_al_mizan] reads "at an appointed measure" as the perfection Moses attained through the ordeals themselves.

Foreknowledge and the "gentle word" (43–44). This is the passage's theological knot, and al-Qummī [qummi] raises it directly against "some of the Muʿtazila": God's command "perhaps he may take heed" does not imply ignorance of the outcome; it makes Moses keener and firms the proof. al-Baḥrānī [bahrani_al_burhan] supplies the Imāmī narrations — Mūsā b. Jaʿfar and al-Ṣādiq: "address him by his kunya, O Abū Muṣʿab," and Pharaoh did take heed, but only at drowning, when faith no longer availed (Yūnus 90–91); al-Ṣādiq ties the gentle word to taqiyya, "the way of Abraham." al-Ṭabāṭabāʾī [tabatabai_al_mizan] gives the philosophical resolution: laʿalla expresses hope resting at the station of address, never ignorance in God, and the command is sound because Pharaoh's response is in itself within his choice.

"Who is your Lord?" (49–53). al-Ṭabāṭabāʾī [tabatabai_al_mizan] reframes Pharaoh's question: as an idolater he does not deny a Creator but feigns ignorance of the God the two proclaim; Moses' answer — {who gave everything its creation, then guided it} — carries a proof of universal lordship, the "general guidance" God lays in every creature. Ṭabarsī [tabarsi_majma_al_bayan], al-Ṭūsī [tusi_al_tibyan] (with Mujāhid) and al-Baḥrānī [bahrani_al_burhan] (via Muḥammad b. Muslim) read {then guided it} concretely as guidance to food, mate and livelihood. On "the former generations," all read {their knowledge is with my Lord in a Book} as God's unfailing record — al-Ṭabāṭabāʾī noting {neither errs nor forgets} negates both initial ignorance and later forgetting, since lordship cannot coexist with ignorance of the owned.
