وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَءِذَا كُنَّا تُرَٰبًۭا وَءَابَآؤُنَآ أَئِنَّا لَمُخْرَجُونَ
The faithless say, ‘What! When we and our fathers have become dust shall we be raised [from the dead]?
لَقَدْ وُعِدْنَا هَٰذَا نَحْنُ وَءَابَآؤُنَا مِن قَبْلُ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّآ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
We and our fathers were promised this before. [But] these are just myths of the ancients.’
قُلْ سِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ
Say, ‘Travel over the land and observe how was the fate of the guilty.’
وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا تَكُن فِى ضَيْقٍۢ مِّمَّا يَمْكُرُونَ
Do not grieve for them, and do not be upset by their guile.
وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا ٱلْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ
They say, ‘When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful?’
قُلْ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ رَدِفَ لَكُم بَعْضُ ٱلَّذِى تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ
Say, ‘Perhaps there is right behind you some of what you seek to hasten.’
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو فَضْلٍ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَشْكُرُونَ
Indeed your Lord is gracious to mankind, but most of them do not give thanks.
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَيَعْلَمُ مَا تُكِنُّ صُدُورُهُمْ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ
Your Lord knows whatever their breasts conceal, and whatever they disclose.
وَمَا مِنْ غَآئِبَةٍۢ فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ إِلَّا فِى كِتَٰبٍۢ مُّبِينٍ
There is no invisible thing in the heaven and the earth but it is in a manifest Book.
إِنَّ هَٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ يَقُصُّ عَلَىٰ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ أَكْثَرَ ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ
This Quran recounts for the Children of Israel most of what they differ about,
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَهُدًۭى وَرَحْمَةٌۭ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
and it is indeed a guidance and mercy for the faithful.
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَقْضِى بَيْنَهُم بِحُكْمِهِۦ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
Your Lord will decide between them by His judgement, and He is the All-mighty, the All-knowing.
فَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَى ٱلْحَقِّ ٱلْمُبِينِ
So put your trust in Allah, for you indeed stand on the manifest truth.
إِنَّكَ لَا تُسْمِعُ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَلَا تُسْمِعُ ٱلصُّمَّ ٱلدُّعَآءَ إِذَا وَلَّوْا۟ مُدْبِرِينَ
You cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf listen to your call when they turn their backs,
وَمَآ أَنتَ بِهَٰدِى ٱلْعُمْىِ عَن ضَلَٰلَتِهِمْ ۖ إِن تُسْمِعُ إِلَّا مَن يُؤْمِنُ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا فَهُم مُّسْلِمُونَ
nor can you lead the blind out of their error. You can make only those hear you who believe in Our signs and have submitted.
۞ وَإِذَا وَقَعَ ٱلْقَوْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ أَخْرَجْنَا لَهُمْ دَآبَّةًۭ مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ تُكَلِّمُهُمْ أَنَّ ٱلنَّاسَ كَانُوا۟ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا لَا يُوقِنُونَ
When the word [of judgement] falls upon them, We shall bring out for them an Animal from the earth who shall tell them that the people had no faith in Our signs.

Human-review flags: bahrani_al_burhan — the large cluster identifying the Beast of the Earth with ʿAlī and the rajʿa narrations is rendered strictly as-attributed and, where parallel, summarized. tabatabai_al_mizan — its fetched unit ends at v.81 and does not reach the Beast (v.82); its exposition here runs to v.81.
The passage completes the resurrection-argument — the deniers' when we are dust… fables of the ancients (67–68), the reassurance do not grieve… nor be distressed by their scheming (69–70), perhaps some of what you seek to hasten is close behind (71–72), and the affirmation that God knows what the breasts conceal and that nothing hidden is not in a clear Book (73–75) — then the Qurʾān recounting to the Children of Israel what they dispute, the command rely on God, the similitude of the dead, deaf and blind (76–81), and the eschatological sign of the Beast of the Earth (82).
"Perhaps it is close behind" (72). All four Arabic sources gloss radifa lakum as the punishment drawing near; al-Ṭabarsī [tabarsi_majma_al_bayan] and al-Ṭūsī [tusi_al_tibyan] identify the 'part' as Badr or the grave, and both note that ʿasā from God is binding. al-Ṭabāṭabāʾī [tabatabai_al_mizan] refines this: the hope is predicated of the addressed Prophet, not of God — citing Abū l-Suʿūd that in royal speech ʿasā stands for certainty.
The dead who cannot hear (80–81). al-Ṭabāṭabāʾī, al-Ṭabarsī and al-Ṭūsī agree the unbelievers are likened to the dead, deaf and blind because they abandon reflection; al-Ṭabāṭabāʾī glosses 'making hear' as guidance and stresses that whoever grasps the proofs with sound reason is not among the sealed.
The Beast of the Earth (82). Here the traditions diverge most sharply. al-Ṭabarsī and al-Ṭūsī gather the Sunnī-shared descriptions — Ḥudhayfa's sixty-cubit beast bearing the staff of Moses and the ring of Solomon, coming forth between al-Ṣafā and al-Marwa to mark believer and unbeliever — alongside ʿAlī's cryptic it has no tail but a beard (hinting it is human) and the ʿAmmār anecdote. Tafsīr al-Qummī [qummi] and al-Baḥrānī [bahrani_al_burhan] carry the distinctly Imāmī identification: the Beast is ʿAlī, whom the Prophet woke as dābbat Allāh — al-Baḥrānī amassing a dozen parallel reports (from al-Ṣādiq, al-Bāqir, al-Aṣbagh, and even a muʿāraḍa with Muʿāwiya and the Exilarch over the name Īliyā). Both, and al-Ṭabarsī, then read We gather from every nation a troop (83) as the rajʿa — the partitive min proving a gathering of some, not all, unlike the Resurrection's We left none [18:47]; al-Ṭabarsī fairly reports that some Imāmīs take the rajʿa figuratively as the return of the state. The published enlightening_commentary [enlightening_commentary] treats the Beast as a canonical sign of the Hour without the ʿAlī identification.
